Hello and Welcome to our website |
|
Purash-Kanpur Haridas Nandi Mahavidyalaya, one of the traditional centres of higher study in Howrah district, West Bengal, India, was established in 1966. This was a time when there was no college within the 20 miles square area surrounding this college. Dr. Jitendra Nath Nandi, a renowned Physician - a worthy son of the soil, established this college to provide education up to the level of graduation to students from economically backward families, specially to female students and students from backward and minority classes who could not send their wards to the cities. The college drew its name from the twin villages Purash and Kanpur as it was located at the junction of the two villages. It is a co-educational, non-government, grant-in-aid degree college, affiliated to the University of Calcutta and recognized by the University Grant Commission under 2f. The college enrolls nearly one thousand students every year and for their teaching and learning 29 dedicated full time and part time teachers remain engaged along with 20 non-teaching employees who always provide their best services on behalf of the college to look after the interest of the students.
The college offers 6 subjects in Honours courses and 10 subjects in general courses at the bachelors level. Spacious classrooms, open-access semi-computerized central library having a peaceful reading room, Science Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, separate common room for both boys and girls, separate students' and teachers' canteen, a large lush-green playground are available in this institution. Amenities for the students that are provided here include student- concession, endowment prizes (the college has provision for scholarships for meritorious students of every discipline who secure highest marks in the last examination. The college does not provide any stipend but give incentives to students of B.Sc.(General) courses.), health check-up facilities through Students’ Health Home etc. Extension activities in the form of Adult Education Programme in collaboration with an NGO, AIDs awareness programme through N.S.S. Unit of the college, Women empowerment programme in collaboration with an NGO, First-Aid Training programme, Health Centre facilities (once a week). Yoga Centre facilities are conducted by the college. N.C.C. (both boys’ and girls’), N.S.S. (both boys’ and girls’), Blood Donation Camp, Eye Donation (after death) awareness camp are also worth mentioning.
A healthy student-teacher relationship enhances the desire of creating an environment of student-centric model of teaching-learning in this institution. Apart from that, special care is given to the slow-learners by providing extra guidance beyond classroom teaching and at the same time the advanced students are presented stiff challenges for their betterment. Counseling to assist a student chose the right curricula, and to pursue the right career beyond the college is done through tutor-ward system. For overall development of the personality of the students, the students are encouraged to take part in cultural programmes, debates, seminars, quiz-contests, indoor and outdoor sports events, district sports meets, national trekking camps through N.C.C. and B & C certificate examinations of N.C.C. Annual magazine, quarterly wall-magazine and other avenues enable the students to hone their creative talent.
I request you to spend few minutes to go through the entire website. Hope you will find something special in our institute. If any query or suggestion arises from your end, please feel free to write to us.
